Castronaut

I was going to teach a class titled, “How To Draw A Cat Wearing An Astronaut Suit Whose Limbs Turn Into Mangrove Roots While A School Of Goldfish Swim Behind It.” The problem was, only 2 people signed up. It turns out those people were Banksy and Cindy Sherman. I would have taught the class anyway except Cindy wanted to attend dressed up as a bag lady and Bansky insisted on doing it through Skype wearing a Princess Leia Halloween mask to conceal his identity. It was a bit too much so I cancelled the class. Here is the demo I had done in advance.

Break A Leg

My dad recently turned 89. Last week he told me he wanted to schedule a day to break his hip. He figured he’d do it himself rather then wait for an accident to happen. He felt he could get it out of the way sooner rather than later. I thought that was a good idea. I asked him if he wanted to do it in his kickboxing class or maybe skateboarding in the driveway. He told me he’d rather fall on the porch of his beach house on the way to dialysis. So that’s what he did, right on cue. It’s worked out real well and now it’s crossed off the bucket list. On the upside, I’ve gotten to do this groovy drawing of him for the instaweb.

Henry Frick

This is a drawing of the Frick Collection in Manhattan. It’s an often overlooked museum but one of New York’s best.

Shoestring

I found a great new life drawing studio. It’s in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. The name of the joint is Shoestring studio. It’s filled with great artists. Many of them from my now defunct Spring Street studio.

Hyper Sketching

Hyper urban sketching. When I draw on the street, I possess an extra chromosome that allows me to see extra details.

Speed

After the closing of my beloved life drawing studio, I’ve been going to other studios that have much shorter poses. As a result I’ve had to alter my drawing style. In order to draw fast, I’ve gone to speed sketching with a few different colored pencils style.

Who Are You

I did this drawing at The Met in nyc. They have a show of original rock and roll instruments. The guitars of Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Ringo Starr’s drumkit, and Lady Gaga’s piano. It’s quite an impressive display. I managed to find a place to hide, which wasn’t easy, in order to draw Keith Moon’s drums. You are not allowed to draw with ink at The Met so I did this with colored pencils.
