Colin

When my nephew Colin was little and I drew his toys, he’d get super excited to see what I’d accomplished. Then he would hunt for other things for me to draw. Now that he’s 11 years old, the magic has seemed to have worn off. I recently did this drawing of his toys at his house. When he came home from school, I struggled to get him to barely glance at it for half a second. “Whatever.” The jaded little fellow has seen my drawing tricks too many times. Oh well.

Clothes Off Clothes On

Continuing my tradition of drawing people in clothing, sitting around sketching people with no clothing on. It never stops being weird. Once again at Bat Haus in Bushwick, Brooklyn.

Ginkos

Ginkgo leaves have carpeted the streets of New York as of late.

Patti Smith

Recently I’ve been reading Patti Smith’s new book, “Year Of The Monkey.” It makes you feel like you are hanging out with her as she travels around staying in cheap motels and eating at dive cafes. After breakfast one morning, a friend took Yun and I to a small, empty bookstore on Spring Street in NYC. The 2 of them went off in search of a specific book. I wandered off on my own and ran smack into the actual Patti Smith. She was sitting all alone signing a stack of her new books. It sort of felt natural because I had spent the past few days hanging out with her in my head. I told her I was halfway through her book. She laughed and thanked me. Now I’m not sure if I did this drawing in my head or on a real piece of paper. I can’t distinguish reality anymore.

Tommy Kane Draws

A behind the scenes look at how I draw with colored pens. What’s my secret weapon? An assistant.

Boombox

A 1980s music distribution device. My interpretation.

College Marching Band

This is a section of a large drawing I did as a wedding gift for my niece, Kaitlyn and her husband, Greg. It’s not some random sketch. They happen to be band teachers.
